IIT Lesser Known Courses | IIT-BHU Varanasi course on Ceramic Engineering

This new four-year programme will focus on educating and training persons in the discipline of Ceramic and Glass science and technology.

IIT BHU Varanasi offers a four-year BTech Ceramic Engineering programme to educate and train students in the discipline of Ceramic and Glass science and technology. IIT BHU also delivers another course in Ceramic Engineering such as an Integrated Dual Degree (five-year BTech + MTech in Ceramics Engineering). 

This is specially designed to provide fundamental technical knowledge and skills in the areas of traditional ceramics such as glass, pottery, porcelain, whitewares, cement, refractories and furnace technology.

Students can get admission in both BTech and IDD Ceramic Engineering programmes through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted jointly by the IITs.

BTech Ceramic Engineering Programme is a four-year engineering degree programme to educate and train students in the discipline of Ceramic and Glass science and technology. The programme consists of Institute Science and Engineering courses. The students may opt to study along a specified stream with a combination of project work and courses.

Integrated Dual Degree (IDD) Ceramic Engineering Programme is a five year engineering degree programme to educate and train students in the discipline of Ceramic and Glass science and technology with the award of both BTech and MTech degrees. The students work on the research and development project for their Masters Thesis during the last two years of the programme. Those who qualify for GATE are awarded Institute TAship during the fifth year.

Last year, the Mean CTC reached Rs 24.11 lakh per annum, the highest CTC reached 40.18 lakh per annum and the increment per cent reached 68.71 per cent.

Eligibility criteria 

BTech or an equivalent degree in Ceramic/ Civil/ Electronics/ Electrical/ Mechanical/ Metallurgical Engg./ Chemical Engg. and Technology/Materials Science and Technology/ Silicate Technology or
MSc Physics (with special papers in Solid State/ Electronics) or Electronics or Chemistry (with special papers in Physical/ Inorganic/ Solid State Chemistry) provided the candidate has passed BSc/ BSc(Hons.) Examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
