The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur received Rs 11.6 crore from the alumni of 1999 batch during the Silver Jubilee reunion held between December 27 and 29.
The Class of 1999 pledged the amount to support various activities on campus including infrastructure enhancement, research advancement and fostering academic excellence.
According to a statement issued in this regard, the reunion brought together over 180 alumni and their families from around the world, offering them an opportunity to reconnect and reflect on shared experiences.
Prof Manindra Agrawal, director of IIT Kanpur, expressed his gratitude, stating, “Our alumni not only honour the institute’s tradition of excellence but also actively shape its future. We take pride in their extraordinary accomplishments and are grateful for their continued support and vision in fortifying IIT Kanpur’s legacy. On behalf of the Institute I express our gratitude for this generous contribution.”
The Class of 1974 in February pledged Rs 10.11 crore. The pledge came as part of the Golden Jubilee Reunion of the IIT Kanpur 1974 batch.
Recently the Silver Jubilee batch (Class of 1999) of IIT Bombay pledged Rs. 21.2 crores towards the Legacy project. Last year, the Silver Jubilee batch (Class of 1998) pledged Rs 57 crore towards the Legacy project, whereas a year before, the Class of 1997 pledged Rs. 26 crore.
