IIT Scholarships: Want to study at IIT-Hyderabad? Know about these scholarships

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) offers scholarships each year to support deserving students. These scholarships are provided either as tuition fee concessions or through direct benefit transfers to students’ bank accounts.

Among the institute’s schemes is the Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship, which is open to students from the GEN, GEN-EWS, and OBC categories. To qualify, the parental gross annual income must not exceed Rs 4,50,000, and applicants are required to submit an Income Tax Return (ITR) acknowledgement from the Income Tax Department as proof of income for their parents or guardian.

Under the Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship at IIT Hyderabad, the number of awardees is capped at 25 per cent of the class strength. To qualify, students must maintain a minimum SGPA/CGPA of 7.0 without any active backlogs in any course, including additional ones. Those shortlisted receive a monthly pocket allowance of Rs 1,000 as part of the scholarship benefits.

Students are permitted to avail only one scholarship, stipend, or financial aid from a single stakeholder during a given period. They cannot receive multiple scholarships or financial assistance from different sources—whether government, private, or external agencies—within the same academic year.

The SC/ST Scholarship at IIT Hyderabad is open to students from the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes whose parental gross annual income does not exceed Rs 4,50,000. Applicants must submit an Income Tax Return (ITR) acknowledgement as proof of income and maintain a minimum SGPA/CGPA of 7.0 with no active backlogs in any course.

Unlike other schemes, there is no cap on the number of awards, provided the eligibility criteria are met. Shortlisted students receive Rs 250 per month as pocket money along with a refund of license fees and dining charges at actuals. However, beneficiaries are permitted to avail only one scholarship or financial aid from a single stakeholder in any academic year.

Meanwhile, in its 14th Convocation, IIT-H graduated 1273 students across various programmes, including BTech, MTech, MSc, MDes and PhD. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, was the Chief Guest of the Convocation, who delivered the address and presented the four gold medals and 44 silver medals.

Rahul Ramachandran from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering received the President of India Gold Medal. He scored 9.89 CGPA.

Among the undergraduate programs, 460 students graduated with a BTech degree, while 20 students completed their BDes. The postgraduate cohort included 11 MA graduates in Development Studies and Health, Gender & Society, 98 MSc graduates, and 33 MDes graduates, including 10 who completed MDes by Practice.
