In what is being considered as India’s most comprehensive B-school ranking, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has been adjudged the country’s number one business school, followed by IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Lucknow at number two and three respectively.

The Delhi-NCR-based Management Development Institute (MDI) and the Jamshedpur-based Xavier’s Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) come in at number four and five, edging out a few IIMs to complete the prestigious top 5 slots. IIM-Calcutta is ranked at number 6.

The rankings have been made by business news channel CNBC-TV18 with management portal MBAUniverse.com and research agency TNS.

The report says: “In a first of its kind research and analysis, the ‘A of B Ranking’ survey looks at three different viewpoints to present the complete 360 degree picture on which are India’s leading B-schools.”

For the analysis, data was first collected directly from the IIMs and other business schools. The opinion of over 5,000 stakeholders, including recruiters and people from the management community was then taken, which was finally analysed by TNS.

But the surprise in the quantitative rankings comes from the New-Delhi based International Management Institute (IMI), which is ranked at number 8.

The other B-schools in the top-ten list are: Bhavan’s S P Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai; Shailesh J Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay; and Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.
