Following a meeting chaired by the Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and attended by education minister Kuber Dindor among other senior officials, the state government on Thursday announced changes in Class 10 and 12 state board exams from academic session 2023-24.
The changes in the Class 10 and Class 12 exam pattern have been introduced keeping in mind the National Education Policy 2020. The major modifications announced by the Gujarat board include an increase of 10 per cent — from 20 to 30 per cent — in objective questions and in descriptive questions, the weightage being declined from 30 to 20 per cent.
Further, Class 12 science students of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) can take one or all supplementary exams in June-July to improve their results. The best of two will be considered, the state government stated.
Also, Class 10 students can now appear for supplementary exams in three subjects. This was previously for two subjects. Similarly, for Class 12 general stream students, they can appear in supplementary exams for two subjects instead of one.
In Class 12 science stream, the 50 per cent MCQ have been retained. Though there has been a change announced in the remaining 50 per cent descriptive questions. Instead of internal options within questions, students will be given general options from within the question paper.
