With the onset of Navratri, Dussehra, and Durga Puja, schools across several Indian states have announced holidays. While some states have announced breaks extending until the first week of October, others have shorter closures, depending on regional customs and official calendars.
In West Bengal, Durga Puja is the biggest festival of the year, and schools remain closed for an extended period. Officially, the holidays run from September 26 to October 7, however, due to heavy rainfall and flooding in Kolkata and surrounding areas, schools were asked to shut down on September 24 and 25 as well. The classes are expected to resume after October 7.
In the national capital, Delhi, the Directorate of Education has announced an autumn break from September 29 to October 1. As October 2 is observed as Gandhi Jayanti and coincides with Dussehra, schools will reopen on October 3. Private schools are following a similar schedule, though minor variations may occur.
Maharashtra declared a closure of schools on September 29 in several districts. Authorities advised residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
Schools in Telangana have been closed since September 21 and will remain closed till October 3. The holidays were the part of the academic calendar.
In states like Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha, holiday schedules vary. In some parts of Bihar and Jharkhand, schools are closed from September 27 and will reopen after October 2.
Since education departments issue state-wide or district-level notifications, and private schools sometimes follow their own calendars, parents are advised to confirm the exact holiday dates with individual institutions.
