S Nandhini, a student of Annamalaiyar Mills Girls Higher Secondary School in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district created history by achieving a rare feat of scoring centum in all the subjects in the class 12 exams for which the results were declared by the Director of Government Examinations (DGE) on Monday. The student whose father works as a carpenter, scored full marks in Tamil, English, Economics, Commerce, Accountancy and Computer Application, scoring an overall 600 marks. On Tuesday, Nandhini met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin at his residence to receive his appreciation. Addressing the reporters after meeting Stalin, the student said she is very happy to secure the top rank in the state. “I dedicate my victory to my parents and teachers. I was invited by the chief minister today; I consider myself blessed. He (Stalin) gave me gifts and told me that he will provide financial aid for my higher education, and told me to contact him in case I need any help. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the chief minister and the government,” she said. Nandhini told the reporters that she wanted to become an auditor. According to the data issued by the DGE on Monday, a total of 94.03 per cent of the over 8 lakh students who appeared for the class 12 exams in Tamil Nadu have passed. This includes 96.38 per cent of girls and 91.45 per cent of boys. Last year, the pass percentage was 93.76 per cent. It is to be noted that G Shreya, a lone transgender student who wrote the exam from Namakkal also managed to clear the exam. She scored 337 out of 600. Meanwhile, the Puducherry government also declared results for the Class 12 public examinations. The overall pass percentage was recorded at 92.68 per cent, a drop of over 3 per cent from the previous academic year. Officials said that of the total 14,224 students, comprising 6,682 boys and 7,542 girls, who wrote the Class 12 examinations in the two regions, 13,183 wards cleared it registering a total 92.68 per cent. The pass percentage last year was 96.13 percentage and it has come down by 3.45 per cent this year, they said. (With inputs from PTI)
