Transition from subjective to objective

My transition from subjective type to objective type wasn’t very difficult. The MCQs were not confusing. And out of 50 questions, we had to answer only 40, so, I only attempted the questions I was sure about.

For my choice of course, I was required to appear for one language subject and three domain subjects. I chose English as my language and my domain subjects were Political Science, Psychology and History.

English was the most ambiguous

English was the most ambiguous because there is no definite syllabus. Therefore,  I went through the syllabus and regularly practiced reading comprehension, poetic devices, synonyms and antonyms.

Reading comprehension was a major chunk of the question paper. In my CUET paper, there was three reading comprehension, which had a total of 15 sub questions, reframing of jumbled sentences, poetic devices, synonyms and antonyms.

Preparation amidst ambiguity

There was a lot of confusion regarding CUET as it was happening for the first time. In December, we got to know that we will have to appear for an exam to get admission to Central Universities.

In March, I got a course from a coaching institute called ‘Supergrads’. I undertook their aptitude and English courses but later when we got to know that there would be no general test so I changed my course from aptitude based to domain-specific.

The coaching has given us many mock tests and there were many online videos which helped in the exam preparation. This all was in addition to the constant revision of NCERT textbooks. Most of the syllabus was completed in school as CUET is an NCERT-based exam. Giving mocks was beneficial.

CUET was the best thing that happened

CUET was an exhausting experience as it was being conducted for the first time and there was so much ambiguity around it, however, the NTA has released the sample question paper so that we could have an idea.

CUET was the best thing that happened because it is very difficult to get admission into top notch DU colleges with board percentage and I don’t think I would have got admission to LSR with my percentage. CUET played a leveller for all of us and has made admissions to universities like DU more accessible.

Changes I recommend

There should be smooth functioning because in our time there were a lot of gaps like technical glitches. During one of my exams, all of our computers got blacked out.

NCERT is mandatory

Go through NCERT very thoroughly, give a lot of mocks as it will boost your confidence and the exam would feel like another mock.
