CLAT 2026 Counselling Registration begins for UG, PG admissions (Representative Image/Express Photo)CLAT 2026 Counselling Begins: The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has announced the counselling schedule for CLAT 2026 following the declaration of results. Candidates who have qualified in the Common Law Admission Test 2026 will be eligible to participate in the centralised admissions counselling process for undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes offered by participating NLUs.
As per the notice, the counselling process will be conducted in five rounds, with seat allotments released at different stages based on candidate preferences, ranks and availability of seats.
The CLAT 2026 admissions counselling will begin with the registration window opening on December 16. Eligible candidates will be required to register online on the CLAT portal and pay the counselling registration fee within the stipulated timeline.
The first allotment list will be published in early January 2026, after which candidates will have to exercise their choice of ‘Freeze’, ‘Float’ or ‘Exit’ in each round of counselling. Here’s the detailed schedule for CLAT 2026 counselling.

In each round of counselling, candidates who are allotted a seat at any participating NLU can choose between the ‘Freeze’, ‘Float’ or ‘Exit’ options. To confirm a seat under the ‘Freeze’ option in any of the five counselling rounds, candidates must pay the prescribed non-refundable confirmation fee within the given timeline. Failure to complete the required formalities may result in forfeiture of the allotted seat.
Candidates must keep scanned copies of the required documents ready for upload during the admissions counselling process. Items marked as mandatory are required for completing admission formalities. Here’s a list asper the official notice:

Any other supporting documents for category claims such as EWS certificates, wards of serving/retired defence personnel, sons/daughters of ex-servicemen, etc.
Note that the CLAT authority has reiterated that all counselling-related activities will be conducted online through the CLAT portal by the Consortium of National Law Universities only, and no third-party website.
