Class 7 students will now have a chapter on the National War Memorial — ‘A Homage to our Brave Soldiers’ as a part of the NCERT curriculum. This initiative is being jointly undertaken by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education.
The objective of this initiative is to inculcate the values of patriotism, devotion to duty and courage and sacrifice among school children, and increase the participation of youth in nation-building, the ministry said in a press release.
The chapter will highlight the history, significance and concept of the National War Memorial (NWM). It will also talk about the “supreme sacrifice made by the bravehearts of the Armed Forces in the service of the nation post-Independence,” the release stated.
This chapter is being showcased as an interaction between two friends who share letters with each other, expressing their feelings of gratitude for the freedom they enjoy due to the sacrifices made by the bravehearts. “Deep emotional impact and connect, which arises in minds and hearts of the children as they visit the iconic monument, have been brought out creatively by the authors of NCERT,” the ministry said.
The National War Memorial was set up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 25, 2019 in New Delhi. “It was set up to inculcate a sense of sacrifice & national spirit among the people and pay a befitting tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives defending the nation,” the release stated.
