A Delhi Sports University is also slated to come up in about three years at Mundka on around 80 acres of land, where 2,500 students are likely to be trained in 20 Olympic sports, Kejriwal said.

Said Kejriwal at the inauguration: “For a few years, we pondered over the idea of a Delhi Sports University. We thought that our country has 140 crore people, and when it comes to the Olympics or international sports events, we come at the lowest in the table in terms of medals won… what are we really lacking? we don’t have any dearth of talent. We have immense talent in our country… talent is not dependent on poverty or money. It can be possessed by both rich and poor people.”

The Delhi Sports School, which offers a sports-centric curriculum, is one of the Delhi government’s Schools of Specialised Excellence, with classes from 6 to 12. It is affiliated to the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE).

“All the athletes training at Delhi Sports School are being prepared to win more and more medals at the Olympics. This is our goal,” Kejriwal said.
