A senior NDPL official said an FIR has been lodged by the company against one Meera Devi in Bawana, who had been defaulting on payment of dues since March Power discoms NDPL and BSES on Monday registered FIRs against the two consumers who allowed the unlawful restoration of their disconnected electricity lines by Arvind Kejriwal, but the instigator found no mention in the complaints. Kejriwal launched his bijli-paani satyagraha last Saturday, calling for a rollback of the power tariff hike that was announced this June, and asked consumers not to pay their inflated bills. On Saturday and Sunday,Kejriwal burnt electricity bills and illegally restored power connections in two houses in Tigri Khanpur and Bawana. Supply to the two houses was snapped because they had not paid their electricity bills. Discoms said Section 138 of the Electricity Act allows them to register criminal complaints against any person who interferes with the power supply network. And in this case it is between the discom and the consumer whose connection was restored unlawfully, a senior Power department official said. Officials said the bigger fear in such unlawful restoration was that of electrocution. Power Secretary Shakti Sinha told Newsline: The law should not be broken. This is a clear violation of law,and the discoms would file criminal cases against the culprits. The consumer needs to understand that power consumption in Delhi was the highest in several years these summer months. This months power consumption is already down by 45 per cent, and the public will notice the difference in their next bills as well and settle with the new tariff regime, Sinha said. Power department officials said the BSES has also registered a criminal complaint against Bana Ram,whose connection was restored in Tigri Khanpur by Kejriwal on Saturday. The said case involved disconnection over non-payment of bill amounting to over Rs 15,000. A senior NDPL official said an FIR has been lodged by the company against Meera Devi in Bawana, who defaulted on payment of dues since March. Kejriwal had gone to Meera Devis house on Sunday and restored her connection. She is a resident of a JJ cluster. Her bill amount was Rs 3,580 in March. Her line was disconnected after several warnings. To get the power re-connected is unlawful under Section 138 of the Electricity Act, a spokesperson said.
