Kapil Sibal
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal has returned to the court of the Chief Justice of India, ending his ‘exile’ of more than five months from the court. Sibal, who had backed the impeachment motion against former CJI Dipak Misra, had in April last vowed not to appear before him any more, even as he continued appearing in other courts. But with CJI Misra retiring and Justice Ranjan Gogoi taking over as new CJI, Sibal is also back in Court Number 1.
Eyeing Electric
As petrol and diesel prices rise, government departments are beginning to go the electric way, many having started acquiring electric vehicles. The Health Ministry is already in the process of hiring two electric cars at a cost of Rs 40,000 per month, and chargers are being installed in the ministry for the vehicles. The Transport Ministry is working on a vision that by 2030 all vehicles will be electric.
No Seat For Minister
Two days after tweeting that he was heading home from the United States immediately, following the accident in Amritsar, Piyush Goyal finally returned to India on Monday. It is said that the delay was because all weekend flights to India were full, and even Air India apparently didn’t have space to accommodate him. The minister arrived following a 12-hour layover in London.
Change In Air
With the BJP fighting considerable anti-incumbency in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, there has been speculation that the party leadership would make visible changes in the candidates’ lists. The party released the first list of candidates for Chhattisgarh on Saturday — 14 sitting MLAs had been dropped. This, a top party leader said, is an indication to what’s in store in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, too.
