The government has already asked Amazon and Flipkart to reply to a set of questions on their operations, following allegations by brick-and-mortar stores that the etailers have flouted FDI rules, especially during the recently-concluded festive sales.
On November 12, Goyal is scheduled to have a meeting with representatives of the medical devices manufacturing companies to discuss trade issues. He will also attend the 9th BRICS Trade Ministers Meet in Brasilia on November 11.
“I have taken permission from (Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister) Jai Ram (Thakur) ji for the high-level task force. Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Secretary will head the task force,” Piyush Goyal said.
He suggested that if the remaining 15 RCEP participating countries “make a sincere effort” to resolve India’s concerns and give it the confidence that they will help it “balance this trade inequality”, the country may re-initiate talks to join the mega trade deal.
According to Goyal, the two countries would have been in a position to announce an agreement sooner, but the USTR’s negotiations with Japan and subsequent discussions with China had “probably” delayed the finalisation of the US’ trade package with India.

New Delhi, Feb 22 (ANI): Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday met the Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal at the Presidential Palace in Delhi to discuss the ongoing energy crisis in Nepal. Nepal has been importing 280 MW from India to meet its energy demand. Nepal declared energy emergency last week targeting an end to the ongoing power crisis within the next two years. Canberra, Feb 11 (ANI): Minister for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal, said Australia assured of providing full support to their mission of providing access to affordable energy to every citizen. Goyal was speaking at a news conference after holding an Energy Security Dialogue with Australian Minister for Resources, Energy and Northern Australia, Josh Frydenberg, in Canberra. Goyal is leading a delegation for the third India-Australia Energy Security Dialogue, which is being held from February 8-11. He also presented the idea of Australia providing gas to India on affordable rates. During the news conference, Frydenberg mentioned that though the Australian Government could not determine the prices of gas, a regulatory framework could be made that can facilitate lower prices.
Brisbane, Feb 08 (ANI): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal on Monday said that the Government of India is willing to consider long term fixed price contracts with Australia for the supply of gas which will enable power producer to enter into a power supply contract at an affordable price. Goyal is leading a delegation for the 3rd India-Australia Energy Security dialogue in Australia.While addressing a roundtable in Brisbane earlier today on the business opportunities for LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and Coal Bed Methane, Goyal stated that additionally, opportunities to control the entire value chain right from gas production, liquefaction, shipping, re-gasification and power generation can be evaluated at the current historic low prices of many of these activities. He also stressed that since coal based power is available in India at less than 5 cents per unit, the LNG providers should consider supplying gas to India at a price that is comparable.
Tokyo, Jan 14 (ANI): Minister of State (MoS) for Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal, who is presently in Tokyo to attend the eighth India-Japan Energy Dialogue, said on Thursday that the primary objective of the government is to make Japanese power firms invest in ‘Make in India’ to further provide 24x7 electricity access to the people of the country. Goyal said that he discussed and understood the challenges the Indian grids will face, particularly with the infusion of large amount of renewable energy. Goyal further assured that this engagement with the Japanese power companies will be taken to the next level in India.
