Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Friday convened a meeting with Lieutenant Governors to review schemes in their respective Union Territories but none, except Puducherry LG Tamilisai Soundararanjan, turned up. According to sources, the ministry had changed the date of the meeting so that the LGs could participate but they sent officials instead. It is also learnt that initially the ministry was expecting in-person participation of several LGs and had planned to hold the meeting at Pusa Complex but when the LGs didn’t confirm their participation, the meeting venue was changed to Krishi Bhawan.

Blog Wave

With more and more private companies getting into the business of weather forecasting, the IMD is considering issuing an advisory to ensure that the correct information is disseminated. Addressing a workshop on Friday, IMD Director General M Mohaptra said numerous blogs related to weather are available. He categorised such bloggers into three — those who use IMD data and attributes it to the Met department; those who use IMD data without attribution; and those with “very little knowledge” who rehash forecasts and information taken from the Internet. “It is the third kind of blogger that is dangerous,” said Mohapatra. He said that the IMD will consider issuing an advisory to the public against misinformation.
