The State Election Commission (SEC) has recommended the UP government to make adverse entry of doubtful integrity in the Annual Confidential Report of Hardoi District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Shukla and Superintendent of Police R K Srivastava.
The commission has also recommended suspension of the district excise officer SP Tiwari.
The SEC has taken action against these officers on charges of violating the directions of the commission as well as the state government issued in connection with closure of liquor shops in the district during the local body elections. Polling in Hardoi is scheduled on Wednesday.
Joint Election Commissioner JP Singh said the DMs were directed to ensure closure of all liquor shops in the entire district 48 hours before the end of poll. But the Hardoi DM ordered closure of liquor shops only inside the local body area and within a radius of 8 km.
The SEC has observed that it may affect the check on supply of liquor inside the local body area and that can result in law and order problem on the polling day.
The DM informed the Commission that he issued the order on the suggestion of the district excise officer. The District SP also did not take any step to ensure closure of liquor shops in the district.
The SEC has found these three officers prima facie responsible for violation of the directions of commission and the state government during the polls. It has written to the UP Chief Secretary for action against these officers and inform the commission.
