The Bharuch police Sunday arrested the son of a nursery owner and pot seller of Bharuch for his alleged involvement in the murder of his father. The accused had given a contract to three sharpshooters from Bihar to kill his father, the police said.

As per details, the incident occurred on April 11, when Ram Ishwar Shah, 55, a resident of the Maktampur area in Bharuch and native of Bihar, was shot by two unknown youths while returning home after attending nature’s call. The victim was first rushed to the Bharuch civil hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Vadodara, where he died the next day.

The victim’s son Lallan Shah complained to the Bharuch C Division police station, suspecting the involvement of one Nasir-ul-Haq from Bihar. The deceased hailed from Shivpur in Bihar. Lallan Shah, in his complaint, alleged that his father quarrelled over an open plot with Haq, his neighbour, at their native place in Bihar in 2019. Haq beat him and Ishwar Shah lodged a complaint with the local police in Bihar, the son told the police.

The Bharuch police conducted investigations and through technical surveillance, caught three sharpshooters from Bihar, identified as Hariom Shah, Rama Shanker Shah and Nandkishor alias Rakesh Shah, all residents of Shivpur and brought them to Bharuch on Sunday.

During questioning, the three suspects disclosed that they got the murder contract from Lallan Shah. The police arrested Lallan Shah on Sunday and he broke down during interrogation and confessed that he had given a contract to kill his father.

Bharuch Superintendent of Police Dr Leena Patil told The Indian Express, “The three sharpshooters were unaware that Lallan had given a contract to kill his father. Lallan had made accommodation facilities for them in a hotel in Bharuch. Lallan told the police that he had heavy debts as he had taken money for his father’s medical treatment after Haq attacked him. Lallan demanded money from his father, who refused to give it. This led to regular quarrels between the father and son. Lallan also has two younger brothers. We are trying to dig out more information from the accused.”
