The Dahej police are yet to register an offense and are awaiting reports from the district administration. A major fire broke out at a chemical factory on Friday night at Bharuch’s Dahej GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation). It took about three hours for firefighters to douse the flames.
No casualties, however, were reported in the incident at India Peroxide Limited Company premises, officials said.
The fire broke out at 11 pm at one of the units where Hydrogen Peroxide was being manufactured, as per officials.
Speaking with The Indian Express, Vagra Mamlatdar Vibhu
Khaitan said, “The fire was brought under control and there were no casualties. The employees immediately vacated the premises. At present, the cause of the fire is not yet known. The loss incurred is also been accessed.”
As soon as the incident happened, 16 employees at the premises immediately came out and informed the company authorities. Soon, around 10 firefighters from different companies at Dahej, and Ankleshwar Nagar Palika reached the spot. The fire caused damage in other parts of the factory too, sources said.
The presence of highly inflammable chemicals at the unit turned out to be a major challenge for the firefighters.
After a three-hour-long battle, the blaze was brought under control. The Gujarat Pollution Control Board officials, Dahej police, Vagra Mamlatdar, and health and safety officials were also at the spot once the incident was reported.
The Dahej police had not yet registered any offense in the incident and they are waiting for the reports from the district administration.
