The Derabassi police Sunday unearthed a kidney racket and arrested two persons, including the co-ordinator of a private hospital. The police were quick to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by SP (Rural) Navreet Virk and comprising Derabassi ASP and SHO, to probe the matter.

Kapil, 28, a resident of Sirsa in Haryana, had given his kidney to Satish Tayal, 53, a resident of Panipat. Kapil allegedly posed as the son of Tayal and the hospital staff are alleged to have prepared his fake documents like Aadhaar card and voter card and also prepared the documents of blood groups.

The police arrested one Abhishek, the co-ordinator of Indus Hospital. The investigation was on to identify the other accused. Kapil, who posed as Tayal’s son Aman, was admitted to Derabassi civil hospital from where he had contacted the police helpline number and disclosed about the racket.

Kapil told the police that Abhishek offered him Rs 10 lakh in lieu of kidney and prepared all the fake documents. The transplant was done on March 6 but Kapil alleged that he was given only Rs 4 lakh.

“I gave this money to my friend for doubling it but he too cheated me. I lost money and my kidney,” Kapil told the police.

The managing director of Indus Hospital, Dr Ramandeep Singh, said that the role of some staff members of the hospital had come to light but the hospital was kept in the dark by these employees. He added that they are co-operating with the police in the investigation.

A case had already been registered by the Derabassi police in this connection.
