The FIR states that four years later in October 2022, Amandeep returned to India and got married to one Harman Singh of Bija village on November 1, following which she again left for Canada on November 6, without informing Lovepreet or his family. (File) The Khanna police booked a woman for allegedly taking Rs 20 lakh from the family of her fiancé for going to Canada on study visa and later marrying someone else. The complainant also alleged that the woman and her parents did not even return the money.
Police registered an FIR against the woman identified as Amandeep Kaur of Doraha, and parents, father Harbhajan Singh and mother Baljit Kaur, on the complaint of Kuldeep Kaur of Krishna Nagar of Khanna submitted in November last year.
The FIR mentions that Kuldeep’s younger son Lovepreet Singh wanted to go to Canada so they were looking for a bride who had cleared IELTS. Soon, through their relatives, they came in touch with Amandeep Kaur’s family. However, at that time Amandeep Kaur was aged less than 18 so the marriage was not possible. So both families agreed that first Amandeep will go to Canada on study visa and after coming back, she will marry Lovepreet and then she will take him also along. Kuldeep told police that Amandeep’s parents demanded Rs 20 lakh as total expenditure for sending her to Canada.
Kuldeep submitted that on February 23, 2018, her elder son Lakhwinder Singh transferred Rs 13.64 lakh to Amandeep’s account as college fee in Canada. Then the family gave Rs 3.50 lakh in cash to Amandeep’s family and later another installment of Rs 3.64 lakh was given to them. Finally, in April 2018, Amandeep went to Canada on a study visa.
The FIR states that four years later in October 2022, Amandeep returned to India and got married to one Harman Singh of Bija village on November 1, following which she again left for Canada on November 6, without informing Lovepreet or his family.
The FIR added that during investigation, police also recorded the statement of Harman Singh, who said that he was ready to return Rs 20 lakh to Lovepreet’s family on his wife (Amandeep’s) behalf. He further told police that his wife had returned to Canada after marriage but had informed him about Rs 20 lakh debt she had taken from Kuldeep Kaur.
The FIR has been registered under Sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (Criminal breach of trust) of IPC at Khanna city-2 police station.
Inspector Kuljinder Singh, SHO Khanna city-2 police station said that Amandeep was still in Canada. “We will soon raid her house in Doraha to check if her parents are here or abroad. We will arrest them soon,” he said.
