Zest 2010 kicks off,four new events this time

Former Indian cricket captain Chandu Borde,and Vadgaon Sheri MLA – Shri Bapusaheb Pathare were the chief guests at the function.

Zest,a national level sports festival organised annually by College of Engineering,Pune is a platform for budding engineers to showcase their sporting talents.

This 4-day event comprises events ranging from mind-intensive games such as chess and carrom to more vigorous sports like football and basketball,said a press note.

This year,four new events have been introduced in the line-up: Yoga,torque,rowing and bridge.

Torque is a smart-biking event which aims at testing riders’ skills and patience. The event,which will have on-the-spot registrations is expected to be a highlight of the festival and a major crowd-puller.

The competition is expected to have around 4,000 participants and more than 6,000 spectators.

Teams from states including Gujarat,Kerala and Karnataka have also registered for different events.,a dded the note.

The valedictory ceremony scheduled for January 26 will see 750 medals being handed out to the winners for the various events.

The main objective behind Zest is to create a constructive mix of passion,endurance,skill and teamwork in every participating techie,said the note.

The format of the event is custom-designed to enhance competitive levels. It offers a unique array of sporting action ranging from baseball to Kabaddi,the note said.
