Youth assaults traffic cop,held on attempt to murder charges

A young salesman of a mobile phone company has been arrested on charges of attempting to kill a police constable of traffic control branch at Wakad Chowk on Tuesday evening.

Police have identified the suspect as Prasad Vinod Tatikonda (24),a resident of Janata Vasahat,Parvati Paytha. Police constable V D Rathod lodged a complaint at the Hinjewadi police station.

Police said that constable Rathod,attached to the Hinjewadi division of traffic control branch,was on duty at Wakad Chowk,when he stopped a speeding motorcycle and questioned the rider.

When he asked the rider to show his driving licence,the latter allegedly got into an an argument with Rathod.

Prasad allegedly manhandled Rathod and also hit the constables head with a metallic object,and fled from the spot on his motorcycle. The other policemen at the spot chased and nabbed him.

Police booked him under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and 353 (causing disturbance in government work) of Indian Penal Code. Constable Rathod was later admitted to hospital with head injuries.
