To host info on education, sample papers
Yahoo is looking for partnerships from educational groups and institutes in Pune and other parts of the country to help students do well in examinations and is working on uploading examination sample papers on the web.
The Yahoo group has started talks with start-up companies and plans to carry forward its interactions with educational institutes on content partnerships.
Chief executive officer (CEO) of Yahoo India Research and Development (R&D) Shouvick Mukherjee was in Pune for a day-long visit when he held meetings with many start-up companies to firm up partnerships.
We already have a website dedicated to educational issues featuring a range of educational developments. The website is updated by the users. We are now looking for partnerships to host more information on educational courses along with sample papers. We are aggressively looking for partners. We are also trying to develop curriculum for cloud computing for educational institutes, especially universities. Yahoo operates one of the world’s largest private cloud infrastructures handling 100 billion events a day with 200 petabytes of data,” said Mukherjee. He said the results from the discussions with the start-ups were encouraging in Pune and Yahoo was also looking forward to collaboration on technological applications.
Mukherjee said partnership with education content providers is part of a larger policy of the group to synergise across businesses for mutual growth. We already have partnerships with some of the start-ups. And these are needed as the web is becoming smarter everyday. We are also trying to make content accessible in languages other than that of Hindi and English. There have to be content partnerships on local events as well, he said.
Yahoo India R&D CEO said tie-ups with some start ups have already taken off. “People share the photos on e-mail which became possible due to technological collaboration between Yahoo and a start-up. Our multiple platforms are already helping the businesses especially that of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to grow. But since we have a nearly 77 per cent of the Internet population, this can be used as a strength by the SMEs to get advertised, he added.
