As Pune gets ready to host five matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at the MCA International Stadium at Gahunje, the Pimpri Chinchwad police are chalking out a plan for multi-layer security and management of traffic and access around the stadium.

Meanwhile, the Pune city police said they were anticipating a communication soon from the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) on the accommodation of the playing teams at a hotel in Pune and that a plan would be formulated for the smooth and safe passage of the team vehicles to the stadium and back.

Speaking to Express, commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad police Vinoy Kumar Choubey said, “These matches are going to attract a large number of fans from across the country. We will be putting in place a multi-layer security cover in and around the stadium. A detailed plan for the same is in the making. Each layer will have a specific purpose and a pre-decided number of personnel and officers will be tasked to secure each layer. A communication channel has been established between the MCA office bearers and our team.”

Choubey further said, “A large number of fans would mean a large number of vehicles coming to the stadium. A dedicated team will look after the access control and traffic flowin coordination with the stadium authorities.”

Another senior officer from Pimpri Chinchwad police said for the security cover that has been provided at the stadium, the organising body, which in this case is the MCA, will be charged as per the state government norms on paid security.

Security checks at the entrances of the stadium and crowd control inside and outside the stadium will be part of the multil-ayer security cover. A thorough security sweep of the stadium and surrounding areas will be prior to the matches, said officials.
