Friday evening came alive with everything Bollywood, right from superstar look-alikes to filmy memorabilia
Imagine a scenario where Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan shake hands,a space where you can have pav bhaji the way superstar Amitabh Bachchan likes it. A world where you can dance to the same tunes as Bollywood stars, played by some of the best DJs in the business. This was Bollywood Live, the event that rocked the Pan Card club on Friday.
Shailendra Singh of Percept Media, the company behind the gig, said,The country which buys the most number of Bollywood CDs is Germany, not India, showing that we are ashamed of our own product. Go to any disco and all they play is House or EDM. Films songs hardly creep in,yet whenever they do,the dance floor goes mad. Thus,we have created an environment here at Pancard Club where only Bollywood songs will play.
And the event didn’t disappoint. Veteran DJs Suketu,Akbar,Hiren and Lil’ Kim played songs which ranged an incredible 30 years, all the way from Aap Jaisa Koi Meri Zindagi to Daarling. College student Anshika Ghosh, who had come for the event, remarked,Some Bollywood tracks are eternal. That is why, every time they are played, people go into a frenzy.
But dancing to Bollywood songs was not the only attraction here. There were many stalls set up some had the costumes of some of the greatest characters to have graced the silver screen, like Amrish Puri as Mogambo,Aamir Khan in Ghajini,Amitabh Bacchan in Coolie and so on. Another stall had some of the most famous memorabilia from various movies, including the bikes used in Dhoom and Sholay and the bums used in 3 Idiots. Also present were many actor-lookalikes,including Hrithik Roshan,Salman Khan,Shah Rukh Khan,Amitabh Bachchan,Dharmendra,Sunny Deol and many more. In fact, the fake Salman and Hrithik were dressed as Chulbul Pandey and Krrish respectively!
It took the unlikely alliance of Salman and Shah Rukh (the fake ones,of course!) to get the party started. And,once it did,the dance floor was packed, and remained so till closing time,at 10pm,after which the party shifted to Area 51.
We picked Pune as the first venue because we see it as the future entertainment capital, said Singh, adding,We will go on to three other cities in Maharashtra, namely Nashik,Nagpur and Kolhapur before moving on to the rest of the country.
