Maharashtra BJP MLA Suresh Dhas has alleged that former NCP minister Dhananjay Munde’s associate Walmik Karad, arrested in an extortion case linked to the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in Beed, has property worth over Rs 100 crore in Pune.

“Walmik Karad has amassed property worth between Rs 2,000-4,000 crore. Of this, he has property worth over Rs 100 crore in Pune,” Dhas claimed during an interview on ABP Majha’s Majha Katta programme, which was telecast on Saturday night. Karad has shops on Fergusson College Road and flats in Pune city and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Dhas said he and his teams were collecting all the information about Karad’s properties. “We will then submit it to the Enforcement Directorate, after which we expect Karad’s properties will be sealed and then he will not be able to sell them,” he said.

Dhas expressed hope that Munde will not be arrested in the extortion case related to the sarpanch murder. “If the CDR (call details record) which has been recovered from the accused reveals the name of Munde, he will be in trouble. He might land in jail alongside Karad,” he said.

Dhas said that Karad once worked at the home of the late BJP leader Gopinath Munde. “He used to be a domestic help at Munde’s home. Later, when a firing incident related to local college politics took place, Karad suffered an injury to his leg. He survived that incident and then became an integral part of the Munde family,” the MLA said.

Dhas, an MLA from Beed district, asserted that Karad was calling the shots on behalf of Dhananjay Munde in the district. “Munde just had to attend a function. Every other arrangement was done by Karad and his men,” he said.

Dhas said Karad and his gang were initially limited to one small area in Beed district. “Later, especially after 2019, their tentacles spread to almost all talukas of Beed,” he said.

As for Krushna Andhale, one of the accused in the case who is on the run, Dhas said, “Why would anyone murder Krushna Andhale? No matter how much he remains elusive, one day he will be caught. He was a contractor. He owns a truck.”
