Veterans are our precious treasure, said Lt Gen A K Singh,General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC-in-C),Southern Command. He was addressing an ex-servicemen rally at Shivneri Brigade in Aundh Military Station.
The Army Commander,who was the chief guest at the rally,also flagged off a fort expedition on the occasion followed by the inauguration of infantry square within the brigade. 2012 has been declared year of the veterans.
There are over 50,000 services personnel who retire every year. Each one of them is an ambassador of the Armed Forces. I have two responsibilities one of taking care of the serving soldiers and their families. And the second is to take care of the veterans and their families, he said.
On a broader scale,the Army Commander said,The J&K borders and the North-east is under the control of the Army. We are going through internal challenges and the Army is aware of itsresponsibilities. Yes,there have been reports about the shortage of equipment,arms and ammunition,but efforts are on to meet the requirements. I can assure you the Southern Command is ready for any challenge.
