A 30-year-old man has died of electrocution after he came in contact with a wire fence of a residential society in Kondhwa when he took shelter from rain. The incident took place outside the Brahma Estate Society around 6.30 pm on June 24. Police identified the deceased as Ajay Kumar Varma, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh. A resident of Pawar Chawl at Shivnerinagar in Kondhwa, he worked as a painter in Pune. Police booked a case under Indian Penal Code section 304A (causing death due to negligence) on a complaint lodged by Varma’s father Vinod Kumar. According to the FIR, Varma was returning from work when he took shelter next to the society’s wall. He collapsed on the ground and fell unconscious after coming in contact with the wire fence. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead. Senior inspector Sanosh Sonavane, in charge of the Kondhwa police station, said, “The initial probe suggests that an electric current was present on the wire fence and that it led to his death by electrocution. We are trying to establish which office-bearers of the residential society were responsible for this.”
