On the first day of the water cuts in the city, there was confusion among citizens Monday as there was no water supply in the central part of the city, though the area was not featured in the water cuts schedule. Meanwhile, glimpses of problems the area had to face emerged later as complaints poured in, on water shortage, leakages and misuse of water.
The PMC have started alternate day water supply from Monday and half of the city did not get water on the first day. The water shortage was faced by the citizens in camp area with the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) made to rope in water tankers to meet the demands of citizens. This was in addition to the confusion among citizens living in peth areas.
As many as 94 complaints were registered at the civic water supply department. “The complaints are of various types, including water shortage. The citizens have also pointed out on the loss of water due to leakages in pipeline, misuse of water for construction activity, washing centres and swimming pools,” said civic officer.
The complaints would be increasing, he said, adding, “We are now focusing on implementing the alternate day water supply as it is a difficult task. It will take time before the supply is streamlined as per the new schedule. There are going to be technical problems in the network due to changes and they have to be resolved.”
PMC superintendent engineer V G Kulkarni has urged restaurants, hotels and other eating joints to inculcate new practice of supplying water through water bottles to avoid any wastage by customers.
“The water given through bottle would enable citizens to take only required amount of water in glass and avoid any waste,” he added.
