Security at the borders alone is not enough,if the people of the nation do not feel secure. The national security of 21st century is about economic, technical and most importantly psychological security.
The seminar at Cyrus Poonawalla Hall,BMCC,will begin with felicitation of veterans of the 1962 war Colonel Krishnamohan,Lt Gen V M Patil besides others. Starting 9.30 am,the first session on Day 1 will include a lecture by General Patil on India-China relations, then and today.
The second session on Day 1 will include an address by Gen Shekatkar where he will speak on the changing perspective of national security.
Day 2 of the seminar will focus on role of Defence Research and Development Organisation,Ordnance Factories and most importantly, indegenisation of defence production.
Over 70 per cent of Indias defence equipment is imported. And if we want to boost the indigenous industries to produce complex defence equipment, government support and assurance is required. We have invited representatives from private industries in the city to share their views on the same, Shekatkar said.
