Two-month ‘Maha camp’ to fast-track passport applications from tomorrow

The camp is likely to witness a steady increase in the number of passport applications processed.

Starting May 1, the Regional Passport Officer (RPO) will organise a two-month long ‘Maha camp’ where initially 125 passport applications will be processed daily. The camp — to be held at Pandir Bhimsen Joshi Kalamandir, Aundh Road — will continue till June 30. The camp is likely to witness a steady increase in the number of passport applications processed.

“We will begin with 125 applications for the first 15 days and then from May 15, we will increase the daily quota step-by-step up to 600 applications per day,” said Atul Gotsurve, regional passport officer.

The camp, he said, was initially planned at Koregaon Park — as the area is centrally located — but it was changed due to logistical issues. The new venue, Pandit Bhisen Joshi Kalamandir, near body Gate Police Station, close to Bremen Maitri Chowk too is convenient.

The aim of the camp is to reduce the “appointment availability cycle”, which causes delay in applicants getting their passports.

Online appointment is compulsory for attending the camp, according to the officials. Residents of Pune, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur can benefit from the camp.

On May 1, the camp will be inaugurated by PMC Mayor Dattatraya Dhankawade.
