The award includes a shared prize sum of USD 10,000 along with a plaque.Prof Satishchandra B Ogale, adjunct faculty in the department of physics at IISER Pune and director of TCG–CREST, Kolkata, has been selected to receive the 2026 TWAS Award by The World Academy of Sciences to recognise outstanding scientific achievements in developing countries. These prestigious awards are given every two years for outstanding achievements in research and application of science and technology to sustainable development in the developing world.
On November 14, 2024, TWAS announced a total of 25 awardees in different categories. Professor Satish Ogale was chosen for the TWAS Award in the category of physics, astronomy and space sciences along with Professor Ding Hong from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. The award includes a shared prize sum of USD 10,000 along with a plaque.
In his career span of 45 years, Ogale has researched in the field of materials physics covering both fundamental and applied studies. Over the years, he worked in many fields, including high-temperature superconductivity, colossal magnetoresistance manganites and multiferroics.
The present TWAS recognition is primarily for his innovative research work done in India over 15 years on clean and renewable energy at National Chemical Laboratory (NCL Pune), IISER Pune, and RISE (TCG-CREST), Kolkata.
