Turner humbles Satschko

Davis Cupper and top seed Daniel King Turner of New Zealand on Saturday defeated his German opponent Alexander Satschko 6-7,6-4,6-2 to lift the men's singles title in the $15,000 Deccan Gymkhana AITA Men's ITF Tennis Futures.

Davis Cupper and top seed Daniel King Turner of New Zealand on Saturday defeated his German opponent Alexander Satschko 6-7,6-4,6-2 to lift the men’s singles title in the $15,000 Deccan Gymkhana AITA Men’s ITF Tennis Futures.

Turner appeared in fine nick as he began the match on a promising note,with the German matching him serving for serve and answering his forehands and backhands with innovations of his own.

In an epic battle which lasted two hours and 17 minutes,Turner ran through Satschko in three sets.

Turner is adept at playing on hard courts which gave him an edge over the German. The composed Kiwi lost the first set 6-7(3) before taking the other two sets 6-4 and 6-2.

Satschko broke Turner in the third game of the first set but the Kiwi broke back to to level scores and force a tiebreak. Satschko played solidly to take the tiebreak 7-3 and win the first set.

In the second set Turner broke the German in the fifth game and then held on to his serve to win the second set 6-4 and level scores. He broke Satschko’s serve twice in the third set,winning it easily.

Speaking about his win Turner said,”I’m happy to have won my first title in India and will surely be back for many more. I’ve been playing well throughout the week and have played some good tennis and won against some good players this week”.

The win gave him a total prize money of $1,950 and 25 ATP points while runner up Satschko received a sum of $1350 and 14 points.
