With a motive to provide platform to the rigorous life lived and the challenges faced by various tribal communities,a Tribal Film Festival has been organised at the National Film Archives of India (NFAI) auditorium on May 17. The festival has been conceptualised by Bahurang,an organisation that has been working towards development of theatre and cinema in collaboration with Films Division of India and Government of Maharashtra.

Speaking about the festival,Kundalik Kedari, founder,Bahurang said,“A number of festivals handling various topics are organized in the city. But not many want to know the harsh realities that are associated with the lives of nomadic tribes. This festival will provide platform to the issues tribal communities face. More and more filmmakers need to venture into this sensitive topic and we are hopeful that this festival will inspire many to do so.”

The one-day festival, now in its fourth year will showcase short films based on the lives of tribes in India. Out of 10-15 films that will be screened at the festival, three films have been produced by Films Division of India while the rest are made by various directors from across the state. Some of the films to be screened at the festival include Jyanche Kuni Aikat Nahi,a film-based on the life of Katkari community,Somacha Swapna, based on forest laws in addition to films depicting lives of Koli,Thakar,Gotur and other tribes.
