Transformer catches fire on Kalyani Steels premises

An 11 KV transformer caught fire in the premises of Kalyani Carpenter Special Steels,Mundhwa,on Thursday at 7:45 am. No casualties or injuries were reported and the fire was brought under control within 45 minutes by the fire brigade.

RB Gangad,station officer,Bhavani Peth fire brigade station,said,“We got a call at 8 in the morning. We immediately rushed to the spot with three fire tenders. Another tender from cantonment had also come to spot. We could control the fire within 45 minutes with the help of foamed water as the transformer had a huge oil container for cooling purposes.”

The transformer was housed in an area which was closed and had a shutter for entry. Rajiv Kadam,company’s vice president,human resources,said,“There were no injuries as the transformer was in an enclosed structure. Prima facie it looks like a fire due to short circuit. There were no losses other than the transformer.” Mangal Modhve,police inspector,Mundhwa police station,said,“After getting a call at 8:15 am,our team visited the spot. The fire had erupted near the electric arc furnace room. As it was early morning there was no one near the transformer and there were no injuries or loss of life.”
