Transcending boundaries

While the surgeon looks forward to visiting hospitals in Wisconsin,the librarian in the group is eager to see the working of mobile libraries and the banker is inclined towards exploring the agrarian economy of the state.

A five-member team of Rotary District 3131 will be visiting Wisconsin in the US for cultural and vocational exchange

While the surgeon looks forward to visiting hospitals in Wisconsin,the librarian in the group is eager to see the working of mobile libraries and the banker is inclined towards exploring the agrarian economy of the state. But these are just some of the highlights of the one month long trip that a group of five from Rotary International District 3131 will be undertaking. Rotarians from this district,which comprises Pune,Raigad and Panvel,will be visiting Rotary District 6250 in the USA for cultural and vocational exchange from April 17. The one-month-long trip aims at promoting mutual understanding and cultural and vocational exchange between the two Rotary districts.

The group of five consists of team leader and surgeon Dr Girish Gune,library professional Radhika Naware,social initiative head,Bina Joshi,banker Padmini Sundaram and IT professional Devesh Mhatre.

“This is part of the Group Study Exchange Programme of Rotary Club,which is an exchange between two Rotary Districts. In the year 2008-09,this exchange is between Rotary District 3131,which is our district and Rotary District 6250 that comprises parts of Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota in the USA,” says Bina Joshi,team member. Joshi,a social initiative professional at Forbes Marshall will be acquainting the district members with the art and culture of the country. “I will be giving a glimpse of our extended family structure. We will try to register even the most intricate features our culture in their minds as we also aim at stimulating their interest in visiting our country for a cultural exchange,” she elaborates. Apart from the heritage of the country,Joshi will also be concentrating on her vocation. “I will visit Forbes Marshall so that I can expose myself to the kind mechanisms that work there,” she says.

Radhika Naware,library professional and a team member is ecstatic about the idea of the cultural exchange,while she looks forward to witness the advanced library management techniques in the US she also expresses her desire to bring into practice some of the techniques in Panvel. “ I am from Panvel and I look forward to implementing whatever I will learn there in Panvel also. Though it will take some time but I am sure the change will come,she says.

The team leader Dr Gune will be visiting the hospitals to see the surgeons operating. “In the month long trip I have been allotted five days to visit institutes of my vocation. I will see the surgeons operating there with a slightly hi-tech version of the equipment we use here,” he says.
