To renew registration,doctors will have to earn 12 credit pts by March

Dr A Shahade,President of the city unit of IMA told Newsline that a meeting will be held on January 15 to chalk out further guidelines for conducting the registrations. “We have 192 units of the IMA across the state and there are over a lakh doctors whose registrations have to be renewed. In Pune district there are over 10,000 doctor,”Shahade said.

Medical science is dynamic and there is no end to learning for a doctor,said Dr Sanjay Gupte,member of the MMC.

Vivek Billampelly,former president of the General Practitioners’ Association said accredited bodies like IMA,GPA and other professional bodies that hold regular continuing medical education programmes have to inform the MMC so that they can validate conference credit hours are based on the composition of the faculty participation,quality and the contents of the subject matter.

Doctors working as medical teachers can claim 4 credit hours per year after producing certificate from their head of institution indicating that they are taking undergraduate /postgraduate classes and are engaged in postgraduate,research work. Doctors doing Post Graduate courses from recognised/ reputed institutions will get 4 credit hour per year for the duration of the courses.

The medical practitioners who have renewed their registration in 2011 will have to acquire 30 credit hours while renewing their registration in 2016. While those who have to renew their registration in 2012,will have to acquire 30 credit hours while renewing in 2017. Till March this year,medical practitioners have to acquire 12 credit hours,said Gupte. However,continuing medical education programmes organised by a drug/ equipment company for promotion of the same are not considered.
