Thief caught in action,but flees with loot

A woman who had locked her house at Yerawada and had gone out for a while on Saturday afternoon,returned to the house and discovered that a thief had broken into the house in her absence,police said. The lock had been broken open,police investigating the woman’s complaint said. She entered the house only to find the thief still inside,burgling the house. The armed robber,instead of fleeing,threatened her with a gun pointed at her,continued to rob the house,states the complaint made to Yerawada police.

The woman,Kalpana Banpati,tried to raise the alarm and alert the neighbours but the thief pointed a gun at her and told her not to shout for help. The thief took jewellery and cash and fled,according to the woman’s complaint.

The total loss was calculated to be around Rs 2.3 lakh,the police said. The police added that besides silver and gold jewellery,the thief had taken away Rs 45,000 in cash from the house.
