Theatrically speaking

“The younger generation,I feel,has been the major factor in giving theatre a new lease of life and bringing about a renaissance of sorts for the Indian theatre scenario,” says the effervescent theatre artiste about the re-emergence of the same. In the city to confer the Vinod Doshi Fellowship on five experimental artistes at Patrakar Bhavan Kapoor is all praise for the younger crop of artistes. “It is encouraging and heartening to know that more and more youngsters are trying out new winds and succeeding in the same,” says Kapoor who is also the director of the Prithvi Theatre Group.

Coincidentally the day of the celebration also happens to be the birthday of her mother. “I feel great that everyone has chosen to celebrate my mother’s birthday in such a unique way,” she quips

Kapoor has also been nourishing the desire of starting a fellowship programme of Prithvi theatre for young and upcoming artistes. “The fellowship programme is really a good way of nurturing and for the growth of future theatre artistes and we are seriously looking into the possibilities of the same,”smiles she.

On being the part of Prithvi theatre for 31 years,and on shouldering the responsibility of running the oldest theatre group Kapoor says,“We have been working primarily as a catalyst in order to boost up the theatre scenario in the country.”

She however is quick to give credit to the various theatre groups for being a part of Prithvi theatre,“Prithvi owes a lot to the various theatre groups associated with us. There is nothing here if you take out the theater groups from it. There is are so many theatre artistes all from the younger crop who are enthusiastic and they need to get on a new platform where they can showcase their talent together.”
