Here’s how the city is celebrating the Bavarian beer fest
Millions converged in Germany for the biggest beer fest over the last couple of weeks. It may be drawing to a close there today, but Pune is still in Oktoberfest mode. From delicious German munchies to mugs, pints and barrels of beer – the fun just gets better every year.
Skye Bar at Radisson Hotel,Kharadi, turned into a mini-Munich since September 26. The fest will end in style here today. “Our chefs have gone all out in serving freshly baked Pretzel and other appetisers like sausage rolls and vegetarian puffs,” says Rohan Cholkar, director of sales,Radisson Hotel. “Oktoberfest isn’t only for Germans anymore. People from all over the world celebrate this beer festival. We too are giving the city a chance to indulge in buckets full of beer!” he adds. On from 7 pm to 11 pm,the fest here has special packages for half and full buckets of beer. “They include three or five pints of beer along with the special Oktoberfest appetisers,” Cholkar informs.
Even Fish Bowl at Ista hotel held the Oktoberfest till Sunday. From Grilled Bratwurst with Sauerkraut,Crisp Fried Chicken Schnitzel to unlimited draught beer,it truly indulged its guests.
This fun will continue to the next weekend (October 8 & 9) at the races. The Members Enclosure will come alive with German music and delicious food. And to top it all,it’s the Derby weekend. “The Pune Derby is synonymous with Nanoli Stud, who will be sponsoring Western Indias first classic for the new crop for the 15th year in a row. The Dhunjiboy family will also sponsor the Sprint Million on the same day,as an added bonus. The weekend will also feature the Oktoberfest for the third consecutive year thanks to the munificence of the Indo German Chamber of Commerce and its associates,” says Vivek Jain, chairman,RWITC.
Another Oktoberfest event to look forward to is the one at The 1st Brewhouse (Doolally on tap!),at Corinthians Boutique Hotel. The dates are fixed for October 14-16 and this beer mayhem will include Bavarian food, fun, music and special brews. Says Oliver Schauf, brewmaster at Doolally Handcrafted Beers,Oktoberfest is to Germany what Diwali is to India. It is a complete riot with food, drink, and fun for people of all generations. Here,we have brewed Märzen, the historic forerunner of the Oktoberfestbier. You wont be able to put your mugs down! Also,Doolally Handcrafted Beers and Blue Bulb are kickstarting the Oktoberfest Wagon which will travel from Mumbai to Pune for some October madness.
