In 2010,they started off as minimalists performing at various music festivals across the country. They would come on the stage and play — no antics,no infusion of technology, but just rock music. Over the years, visuals jazzed up their performances and electronic influences took over their music. Now,in their latest LP album titled Calimatunes,Bangalore-based rock band The Bicycle Days documents its evolution as a band. “The line-up changed over time, and the new musicians brought in their individual styles. For us,changing our music is a way of moving on,” says Karthik Basker, the band’s frontman.

The present line-up includes Rahul Ranganath and Raman Chandramouli on guitar,Shek on bass and Shreyas Dipali on drums. “Our music is an expression of our opinions,” says Basker, adding that it is a culmination of loud sounds,speech,stand-up comedy and lyrics.A constant element in their music is that there are no choruses. “Our songs have never featured sing-along choruses; they are all written in free verse. They will make you think,” says Basker.

The band will perform at High Spirits,

Koregaon Park on Friday,9 pm onwards
