Telecom employees call off indefinite strike

The joint forum of employees and officers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited on Tuesday called off its strike after the meeting of its union members with communication and IT minister A Raja promised in New Delhi proved successful.

The joint forum of employees and officers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Tuesday called off its strike after the meeting of its union members with communication and IT minister A Raja promised in New Delhi proved successful.

The joint forum of BSNL employees and officers had announced the launch of an indefinite strike from Tuesday for various demands.

The officers and employees in the city staged demonstrations at Telephone Bhavan on Bajirao Road and corporate office at Satara Road in the morning. Offices and customer service centres of BSNL in the city wore a deserted look as no employee attended office. According to the district secretary of the union Nagesh Nalawade,minister agreed to take into consideration all stakeholders including unions before any decision is taken with regard to VRS,disinvestment and sharing of infrastructure.

“It was also assured that in the case of absorption issue of ITS officers as also revision of pension of BSNL retirees,a note will be prepared and submitted to cabinet within 3 months. As many as 30 million mobile lines will be made available this year to BSNL to provide connections to customers.
