They do not represent the art studios of the old world, nor are they a substitute for the same, but with the growth of various art forms in the city, and the subsequent renaissance of the same, art studios too are undergoing a revival. From being places that combine spirituality along with the performing arts,to becoming places that merge the same with technology, art studios are becoming a fusion of the old and the new worlds.

Amritanjali dance studio
Viman Nagar
Walk into Amritanjali and you are welcomed with bronze idols of Nataraja,Ganesha and Krishna. And move in a little further,it is not as traditional as you might have imagined. A completely air-conditioned,soundproof hall with a wooden stage rightly placed makes for a perfect setting. With hardly few days into opening,it has already seen one Bharatnatyam performance.
“The main motive behind building the studio was to promote culture in Pune. I wanted to create a space for artistes to come and perform for select audiences,” says Shashikala Ravi of Amritanjali Dance Academy. The studio is equipped with state of the art audio and lighting equipment like speakers, sound mixers and ample lighting options. The soundproof glass blocks out more than 90 per cent of the sound to provide a holistic atmosphere for any kind of performance. Ravi adds,“This hall is also ideal for music concerts because of the low height of the stage, which facilitates an audience-artiste interaction during the performance.” A black backdrop makes for an ideal background to facilitate photography and video shooting as well. The studio is open for performances that can call for an audience of up to 120 and also feature dances photo shoots and videography. All this and much more like motorised curtains, projector presentations during performances is also made available.

Chords India was created as an answer to musicians who had good voices and wanted to record it so that it could be brought forth. “I wanted to do my own audio production, thus this space has been created by a musician for the love of music”,says Shitalachandra Kulkarni who also runs the Institute of Modern Music in the same premises which is an institution with an illustrious history of over 40 years. He further adds,“I set up the studio for my band Tungzten. I wanted to create a space that could be the one place with all recording equipment.”
The studio is well equipped with three separate studios connected with a master control room. It has sound absorbing and sound reflecting panels put in place to provide for an excellent recording experience. “We also have something like a circle oriented project where artistes could come and we would help them create demos of their work, but we do not lend the studio on hourly basis,” says Kulkarni. It also houses mixers, processor rack, interfaces for conversion from analogue to digital, good quality recording equipment et al. The sound reflectors lets one hear the real sound of any instrument that is being played,it maintains the authenticity of the sound. Though the studio was set up 10 years back,it came to its present state only 2 years back.
