Passengers travelling in Pune Metro Tuesday on the Ruby Hall Clinic to Vanaz Corridor stretch were left in the lurch after the train they were traveling in halted at the Nal Stop Metro station for a long time.

While passengers claimed that they waited for at least half an hour, the Pune Metro authorities said after 21 minutes the commuters were told that the train operations had been halted because of a technical failure.

“The metro was headed towards Vanaz. When the Nal Stop station arrived, the train stopped with its doors open for longer than usual, which left the passengers confused,” a passenger said.

Later, an apology announcement was made for the delay.

“As the passengers waited for some clarity, they were told it was a technical failure and it could take anywhere between five minutes to an hour for it to be resolved,” added the passenger.

After a few minutes, passengers were asked to switch platforms, and assured that another Metro will arrive and drop them at Vanaz. People gathered at the opposite platform but rushed back to the same platform again after the technical failure was resolved.

Pune Metro spokesperson Hemant Sonawane said that the technical snag occurred due to collision of birds with the overhead cables of the Metro.

“When birds collide with the overhead cable, it leads to tripping of the power supply. The team searched for the location and restored the supply. It took about 21 minutes to restore the operations,” said Sonawane.
