The right turn
In a commendable move to honour the responsible citizens in the city,Rotary Margdarshak in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Poona Central launched Roadstar,an initiative with the Pune Traffic Police and Bajaj Allianz to reward motorists who rigorously follow the traffic rules.During the weekly Rotary Club meeting on September 5 at the Turf Club in the presence of Manoj Patil,DCP ,Pune Traffic Police the initiative was launched. The Roadstar campaign will involve spotting traffic followers across the city and rewarding them with star coupons those commuters who adhere to the rules:- stopping at the zebra crossing near a signal as soon as the green light turns to amber,stopping at the road side to speak on the cell phone,both passengers in the front of the car wearing seat belts and two-wheeler riders wearing helmets,with bonus stars given to those who have their pillion riders wearing helmets as well. Later on,the star coupon receivers can swap their stars at Bajaj Allianz outlets for motor insurance discounts or for buying personal accident insurance applicable for Bajaj vehicles.

Towards a healthy cause
NGO Savera has undertaken campaigns for swine flu awareness in various slums across the city as well as in the adjoining villages. Shailender Singh a member elaborates,“Starting from the 13th of this month,Savera’s team of volunteers,primarily consisting of student doctors of homeopathy,will be conducting these awareness lessons at Bhilarewadi village near Katraj as well as distributing preventive homeopathy medicines under the supervision of three highly practiced and skilled doctors from the city. Inddition,we will make sure that we eradicate any misconceptions and unreasonable fears they may be harbouring against the disease. We will also be giving out informative and detailed brochures printed in Marathi.”
