Kindness on wheels

About a week ago,city-based school teacher Saroja Devi was travelling in an auto rickshaw from Nirman Vihar to Quarter Gate with her son and a friend. After getting down at YMCA and paying the driver,she realised that she left her bag which had her laptop,some important papers and her son’s school notebooks,in the rickshaw itself. By that time,the driver had already left. Worried,the trio went to the Rasta Peth police chowkey,where they were asked to lodge the complaint at the chowkey near YMCA. The next afternoon,when Devi was at her school Kendriya Vidyalaya Southern Command she was surprised to see the driver,Rahul Londhe,visiting her school. He had found her address in the documents in her bag. The teacher not only rewarded him with Rs 1,000 but also took him to her class,where she narrated the incident to the students,who clapped in his honour. Joshua Hastings,the principal of the school,also met Londhe and praised him for his honest gesture.

Art for a cause

Rotary Club of Poona West had organised an exhibition titled Srujan on October 11 and 12 at Ambar Hall,Karve Road from 10 am to 8 pm. The exhibition saw a display of various articles created by special children. The highlight of the event were the paintings that were created by children from eight schools across the city. The paintings were mainly on two topics Diwali and Ganeshotsav. This is the eigth consecutive year of this exhibition all the proceeds of which are used towards the empowerment of students from various organisations. The items that were put up for sale included akashkandils,clay lamps,greeting cards,handwoven clothes and Diwali-related food items among others. Organisations that participated in this charitable event include Apale Ghar,Chaitanya Charitable Trust,Ankur Vidyamandir,Akanksha Punarvasan Kendra,Umed Parivar,Snehalaya and Jeevanjyot Sheltered Workshop. Over 700 students from various schools like Vidya Jyoti School,Ankur Vidya Mandir,Ruja Mukbadhir Vidyalaya,Vidya Mandal’s Mukbadhir Vidyalaya,Suhruda Mandal,Jeevanjyot Vidyalaya,Saad and Kamayani participated in this event.
