Swachh Survekshan 2023: Pune leaps from 20th to 10th place in cleanest city list, among those with population of over 1 lakh

In 2022, Pune ranked 20th among cities with over one lakh population.

Struggling to improve its Swach ranking, Pune city has bagged 10th place in list of cleanest cities across the country from among all cities having a population of over one lakh for 2023. Authorities said it ranked 20th in 2022.

Pune city has improved its ranking from 20 to 10 in cleanliness among all cities with over one lakh population,” said Sandip Kadam, incharge of solid waste management department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

In 2022, among cities with a population of more than 10 lakh, Pune ranked ninth, but this year the Swachh survey did not declare ranking in this category.

The state list

Among cities with more than one lakh population, the city ranked second in cleanliness in the state after Navi Mumbai, which ranked first in the state and third in the country.

The neighbouring Pimpri Chinchwad ranked 13 in the country and third in the state.

As per the city report card of Pune released by Swachh survey, the city boasts 99 per cent door to door collection of waste, with 97 per cent waste segregated at the source and 100 percent waste generated is processed.

Also, residential areas scored 100 per cent in cleanliness, market areas 99 per cent, water bodies 100 per cent, and public toilets 100 percent clean. There is 14 per cent remediation of dumpsites.
