A magistrate court on Tuesday granted police custody of a youth arrested in connection with rape of a 14-year-old SSC girl student in Shirur.
The suspect,identified as Vaibhav Narayan Dhome (20),a resident of Pimperkhed,had allegedly raped the girl on her school premises on Monday morning. An offence in this case was registered at Shirur police station.
Police produced Dhome before the magistrate on Tuesday and the court remanded him in police custody till April 26 for further investigation.
According to police,the victim is currently studying in Class X at a school in Pimperkhed.
The girl had come to school to attend SSC classes around 7.30 am. But as classes were yet to begin,she went outside to drink water and when she was returning, Dhome,a local resident and a former student of the same school,allegedly forced her into another classroom,locked it and allegedly raped her.
