‘Sugarcane crushing in October’

Pune Guardian Minister and State Water Resources minister Ajit Pawar said the government is set to pre-pone the next crushing season to October instead of November,in view of the crisis owing to bumper crop of sugarcane and uncrushed cane.

Pune Guardian Minister and State Water Resources minister Ajit Pawar said the government is set to pre-pone the next crushing season to October instead of November,in view of the crisis owing to bumper crop of sugarcane and uncrushed cane.

Taking an assessment in the city of the sugarcane production this year,Pawar said the bumper crop has created problems for the sugar factories and cane growers which has resulted in extension of the crushing season.

Pawar who conducted the review meeting of the Pune revenue division for the Kharif season declared that the government would allow sugar factories to start crushing from October 1. He said that he would hold be talking to the Chief Minister Ashok Chavan for the crushing to commence early.

For the crushing to commence earlier,Pawar called for the sugar commissioner to ensure necessary preparations be made while starting the crushing. Having announced that crushing would start in October,he said the government would have less recovery in October and the government would be asked to speed up the compensation.

The review meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister Balasaheb Thorat,MLAs in the division and government officials including divisional commissioner Dilip Band.
