With the final verdict on the best of five still to come, students are not sure whether it will be used to while seeking admission.

With the final verdict on the best of five still to come, students are not sure whether it will be used to while seeking admission.

Jaya Bhaskar, principal,Abhinav Vidyalaya High School,Karve Road, said,“Over the last two years students have become familiar with the system. Today most of them calculated their percentage on their own without our assistance, though we did receive a few queries.”

MV Gosawi, divisional secretary,Pune division,Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE),said,“Another advantage of best five for students is that even if they fail in one subject they can still be declared passed on the basis of the rest of the five subjects. They can clear the remaining paper in the October exam. While they cannot appear for normal admissions, they will not lose an academic year and can directly appear for HSC exam two years later.”

“While best-5 pushed up percentage,it creates problems when it comes to admission to a CBSE school. With ICSE schools,it has always been the best five system. But as I want to shift from SSC to CBSE,I don’t know which percentage CBSE schools will consider,” said Vivek Deshpande,a student.
